Sahîh-i Müslim — Introduction — Hadis No: 19

Translation

Bana Muhammed b. Abbâd ile Saîd b. Amr el-Eş'asî hep beraber İbn Uyeyne'den rivâyet ettiler. Saîd dedi ki: Bize Süfyân, Hişâm b. Huceyr'den, o da Tâvus'dan naklen haber verdi. Tavus, Büşeyr b. Kâ'bı kasdederek ki: «Bu zât, İbn Abbâs'a geldi de ona hadîs rivâyet etmeğe başladı. Bunun üzerine İbn Abbâs kendisine: Filân ve filân hadîsi tekrarla! dedi. O da tekrarladı. Sonra yine ona hadîs rivâyet etti. İbn Abbâs yine: Filân ve filân hadîsi tekrar eyle! dedi. O da tekrar etti. Bu sefer İbn Abbâs'a hitaben: Bilmiyorum; acaba benim bütün hadîslerimi bildin de yalnız bunu mu tanımadın? Yoksa bütün hadîslerimi bilmedin de yalnız bunu mu tanıdın? dedi. Abbâs ona şu cevabı verdi: biz Resûlüllah (sallallahü aleyhi ve sellem)’in üzerinden yalan uydurulmazken ondan hadîs rivâyet ederdik. Fakat insanlar hırçın deveye de uysal deveye de binmeğe başlayınca (yani insanlar iyi kötü demeyecek her mesleğe girmeye başlayınca) biz de ondan hadîs rivâyet etmekten vaz geçtik.»

It is narrated on the authority of Mu'adh b. Jabal:I was riding behind the Prophet (ﷺ) and there was nothing between him and me but the rear part of the saddle, when he said: Mu'adh b. Jabal: To which I replied: At your beck and call, and at your pleasure, Messenger of Allah! He moved along for a few minutes, when again he said: Mu'adh b. Jabal: To which I replied: At your beck and call, and at your pleasure, Messenger of Allah! He then again moved along for a few minutes and said: Mu'adh b. Jabal: To which I replied. At your beck and call, and at your pleasure. Messenger of Allah He, (the Holy Prophet) said: Do you know what right has Allah upon His servants? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Verily the right of Allah over His servants is that they should worship Him, not associating anything with Him. He (the Holy Prophet) with Mu'adh behind him, moved along for a few minutes and said: Mu'adh b. Jabal: To which I replied: At your beck and call, and at your pleasure, Messenger of Allah! He (the Holy Prophet) said: Do you know what rights have servants upon Allah in case they do it (i. e. they worship Allah without associating anything with Him)? I (Mu'adh b. Jabal) replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. (Upon this) he (the Holy Prophet) remarked: That He would not torment them (with the fire of Hell)

One day they discussed the matter, and some of them said: Use something like the bell of the Christians and some of them said: Use horn like that of the Jews. Umar said: Why may not a be appointed who should call (people) to prayer? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: O Bilal, get up and summon (the people) to prayer
